This is so super long and I really apologize.

Tonight my friend and I were talking about some of our favorite books and their movie adaptations. To preface, I don’t believe that anyone can honestly say that there is a part of them that doesn’t want to see their favorite book on screen. Despite all we know about the things that are lost in a movie adaptation, we always want to believe it will, because seeing the story you love so much is such a wonderful desire.

However, we all know that you have to prepare yourself to be disappointed. Part of you says that you wish they’d never decided to turn it into a movie, because it will ruin the way you envisioned it in your head, or it won’t portray things honestly.

The beautiful thing about reading a book is that it’s a personal experience. You may find people who seem to have felt the exact same way as you did about certain things in the book - but no one could ever possibly have the exact same experience that you did while reading it. It depends what copy you had, where you were when you were reading it, your own personal interpretations of things, which parts meant the most to you. I think what people fear the most about movie adaptations is that you lose that experience - movies create a standard. How you are supposed to feel about each part, which scenes are the most important, what is extraneous to the basics of the story - aka what they’re going to cut out. No body feels the same thing, so of course every one is going to feel some sort of gipped when they see the film.
